Spring Clean your Home

Spring Clean your Home

Storm’s Brendan, Ciara and Dennis are now firmly behind us and its time to focus on the first signs of Spring. Flowers begin to bloom, trees regrow their fallen leaves and the clocks go forward an hour. With this season of change its time to declutter, update and give your home that classic spring clean.

1. Keep your carpet clean
Minimise damage to your carpet by ensuring you don’t wear shoes indoors, welcome mats are handy by entrances to greet guests and reduce the chances of excess dirt getting on your clean carpet. Vacuuming regularly with a high-quality vacuum cleaner will reduce the unavoidable build-up of dirt.
2. Stop scrubbing

Got a stain or mark on your carpet? Excessive scrubbing can inadvertently damage your carpet (even if it does get the stain out). Be careful with how much detergent and water you use to tackle stains, too much will result in damage, drenching and unwanted lasting odours. At Maltby’s of Chester, we recommend blotting over the stain and gently removing it with a fresh white cloth so you aren’t adding to the stain.

3. Be ruthless

Take a ruthless stance, Marie Kondo, a Japanese organising consultant, asks you to question if everything you own sparks joy, if it doesn’t, its time to get rid of it. We recommend the sixth-month rule, if you haven’t used something in the past six months, then its time to consider throwing it away. You’ll soon realise how many excess items you have around your home and how much space can be freed up by throwing or donating your unwanted items.

4. Freshen up your flooring

Make the ultimate spring update by changing the flooring in your home. We recommend switching to laminate for the easy to clean solution or hardwood flooring for a natural finish.
