History

It was 1947 when Edgar Maltby made the brave decision to move from cabinet maker to shop keeper and opened his own shop in Brook Street. Edgar had been a cabinet maker for ‘The Stag Furniture Company’ and decided he would prefer a change. It was many years later when Maurice, Edgars only son, took over the running of the company in 1965. Maurice had learned the trade whilst working for ‘Owen Owen’s’ in Chester. During Maurice’s time he managed to purchase other shops in the street resulting one of the largest retail shop frontages in Chester.

Christopher, Maurices only son, began to work for Maurice when he finished his university studies, and spent a year at Brinton’s Carpets learning the artful process of carpet manufacturing from fleece to floor, and subsequently in 1994, Chris became the third generation of Maltby’s. The family are now looking forward to the fourth generation beginning their journey in the business.

The company has evolved over the years to now supply Chester with a fabulous selection of flooring, blinds with an uncompromising attitude to customer service.

Thank you Sally for your patience in helping me to choose my new carpet. It was great having such a huge range to choose from.
